RESUMO

Batteries based on zinc (Zn) chemistry offer a great opportunity for large-scale applications owing to their safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. However, the poor Zn reversibility and inhomogeneous electrodeposition have greatly impeded their practical implementation, stemming from water-related passivation/corrosion. Here, we present a multifunctional electrolyte comprising gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and Zn(BF4)2·xH2O to resolve these intrinsic challenges. The systematic results confirm that water reactivity toward a Zn anode is minimized by forcing GBL solvents into the Zn2+ solvation shell and constructing a fluorinated interphase on the Zn anode surface via anion decomposition. Furthermore, NMR was selected as an auxiliary testing protocol to elevate and understand the role of electrolyte composition in building the interphase. The combined factors in synergy guarantee high Zn reversibility (average Coulombic efficiency is 99.74%), high areal capacity (55 mAh/cm2), and high Zn utilization (∼91%). Ultimately, these merits enable the Zn battery utilizing a VO2 cathode to operate smoothly over 5000 cycles with a low-capacity decay rate of ∼0.0083% per cycle and a 0.23 Ah VO2/Zn pouch cell to operate over 400 cycles with a capacity retention of 77.3%.

RESUMO

Primulajiaozishanensis Z.K.Wu, W.H.Yang & Yuan Wu, a new species of Primulaceae is described and illustrated from Jiaozi Snow Mountain of Dongchuan District, Yunnan, China. Morphological evidence supports P.jiaozishanensis as a member of P.sect.Petiolaressubsect.Davidii, which is characterized by firmly papery or leathery leaves, with veins impressed adaxially, often prominently raised and alveolate abaxially. The new species is characterized by having long and stout rhizomes, smaller leaves with short petioles, short or almost obsolete scape, and larger flowers. The distribution, phenology and conservation status of the new species are also provided.

RESUMO

Conventional carbonate solvents with low HOMO levels are theoretically compatible with the low-cost, high-voltage chemistry of Zn/graphite batteries. However, the nucleophilic attack of the anion on carbonates induces an oxidative breakdown at high potentials. Here, we restore the inherent anodic stability of carbonate electrolytes by designing a micro-heterogeneous anion solvation network. Based on the addition of a strongly electron-donating solvent, trimethyl phosphate (TMP), the oxidation-vulnerable anion-carbonate affinities are decoupled because of the preferential sequestration of anions into solvating TMP domains around the metal cations. The hybridized electrolytes elevate the electrochemical window of carbonate electrolytes by 0.45 V and enable the operation of Zn/graphite dual-ion cells at 2.80 V with a long cycle life (92 % capacity retention after 1000 cycles). By inheriting the non-flammability from TMP and the high ion-transport kinetics from the carbonate systems, this facile strategy provides cells with the additional benefits of fire retardancy and high-power capability.
